 The ICC mourns the passing of Joseph Derrane

 

Joseph Derrane, of Randolph, passed away July 22, 2016 at the age of 86. He was born in Boston, son of Patrick and Helen Derrane, brother of George and Paul. Husband of Anne (Connaughton), He is survived by his loving children Joseph P Derrane Jr., and his wife Cynthia of Lakeville, Sheila A Harvey and her husband Robert of Lakeville, MA. Grandchildren, Russell Burns, Joseph Derrane III, Ashley Moriarty, Matthew Derrane and Robert Harvey. Great Grandfather to Kinley, Jacob, Beckham and Logan.

Joe graduated from Mission Hill High School and lived in Randolph for 56 years. He served in the National Guard and retired from the MBTA.
Joe was known in the traditional/Irish music community. He was considered a child prodigy and a virtuoso. His first recordings and live radio performances were at 15 years old. He was unmatched as a musician, composer and innovator. Among his many accomplishments, being named a National Heritage Fellow was his finest achievement. He continued recording and performing until the age of 80. His music was heard throughout Europe, Canada and the U.S.

Funeral from the Hurley Funeral Home, 134 So. Main St. (Rt. 28), Randolph on Friday, July 29th at 9:15am followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church in Randolph at 10am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday, July 28th from 4-8pm. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Randolph. Founded in 1989, the mission of the Irish Cultural Centre of New England (ICCNE) is to promote and organize Irish cultural, educational, sporting and social events. We aim to establish and sustain a facility where current and future generations of the New England community can participate in activities that promote Irish culture and heritage.
